An unmissable precious village!
An amazing precious village nestled among different landscapes, Ulassai proposes many attractions for a wellness vacation thanks to outdoor sports activities, traditions, archeology and delicacies.
Twenty kilometres from the sea, in the province of Nuoro, Ulassai, Ulassa in Sardinian – is a small village with approximately 1,500 residents. Located among the cliffs (775 m.a.s.l.), the area reaches the border of Barbagia di Seùlo and a small portion of the province of Cagliari.
Its “Tacchi” (heels) typical chalky mountains all around the area, offer different unbelievable landscapes, while the residential area is located between the big “Heel” and the Tisiddu Mountain.
Caves, falls, and much more
The caves’ range start from the “Tacco, the most famous one is “Grotta Su Marmuri”, developed for more than 800 m., and it is the main tourist destination in the Pardue Valley. From the south side of the caves the majestic Lecorci falls spring up, and in the evergreen forest live the precious fauna protected by the Girisai Oasis!
From the south side of the village you can see the peak of the Bruncu Matzeu, the highest one of the Monte Tisiddu where during the clearest days you can admire the massif of Gennargentu.
The Rio Pardu Valley, from the east side is olive tree cultivated, while from the west along the south side of the Tacco you reach Santa Barbara hamlet, known for its big Lequaci falls.
The Ulassai area, between the villages of Jerzu and Perdasdefogu expands until the big and savage Quirra upland.
Santa Barbara Church
Going towards the Lequarci falls there is a little church dedicated to Santa Barbara. The typical Sardinian architectural style is simple, made of local stones and granite. The main facade has a wooden big door and a small stone bell tower.
The roof is made of Sardinian shingles, and a Latin cross is located on the top of the bell tower. The church is surrounded by Roman portico, “is loggettasa” in Sardinian – used even today to host the pilgrims to honour and celebrate the Saint the third Sunday of May.

Among the best records, this wonderful area can boast to be one of the five Blue Zone in the world, that affects those places with the highest longevity rate worldwide!
During the last years, Ulassai has discovered its tourist vocation. In this beautiful island, usually known for its beaches and amazing sea, this village represents a different great proposal: the extraordinary environmental heritage here is made of cliffs, falls, and woods.
